Current (lack of) progress

Here's what I'm looking at now:

got the front suspension down to this:

It's really nice how the camera flash brings out the rust on my parts.  The calipers are basically good for boat anchors at this point, so I'll try to score some new ones.

Here's the rest of my Integra RS:

In the pile, I have the rear trailing arms, all shocks (that need to be thrown away), a front crossmember, steering rack, and master power/master cylinder (maybe buried somewhere else), front swaybar, and some VW parts completely unrelated to this project.

Useful tools today:
Jegs ball joint splitter.  Works great with a big hammer.

Craftsman impact driver.  Everyone should own one.  This is great for getting out the rusted/stubborn screws that hold the rotor to the hub.  Especially useful when you use a big hammer.

Kobalt 4 pound "engineer's hammer" (?!).  Works great with anything that requires a big hammer.  See what 1/2*m*v^2 can do for you with this beast.

Now to dig through and figure out what I can reuse and what I can't.

To-Do list for this winter

Here's the crap I plan on doing on the civic this winter.  Hopefully I'll cross stuff out as I go:
-Finish disassembling my old 94 Integra RS suspension parts [CANCEL]
-Sandblast and paint the old parts I'm reusing [CANCEL]
-Buy 2000 Civic Si brakes and suspension.  I give up on used parts. [2011_01_15]
-Press out old hubs and bearings, press in new ones (maybe 5-lug ?) [CANCEL]
-Press out old bushings and press in new ones (OEM? Suja1) [CANCEL]
-Buy Skunk2 RR lower control arms.  Those look pretty BA. [2011_01_15]. [xout 2012_08_11]
-Install those components, new calipers, new rotors, braided SS lines, new e-brake cables, my Ground Control coilovers, and Koni dampers. [xout 2012_08_11]
-Pull the D16Y7 outta there. [xout 2012_08_11]
-Toss the old steering rack, cross-member, and front Lower Control Arms, and install parts from 94 Integra RS I got sitting in the garage. [actually, I used steering rack and cross member from 93 Civic DX hatchback.  xout 2012_08_11]
-Loop the power steering rack to non-permanently defeat the power steering. [again, the 93 Civic DX parts fit without modification and the non-PS rack has a great feel.  xout 2012_08_11].
-Prep the engine bay in whatever way is necessary to get the larger engine in there. [xout 2012_08_11]
-Order K24 engine, Hasport mounts, and Hybrid Racing or RyWire conversion harness.  Install as necessary. [Chose a different engine...  xout 2012_08_11]
-Pick out a nice set of rims and tires.
-Re-touch the interior.

I'll add to the list, or cross things out, as necessary.

First Post - Welcome

Welcome to my web log.  Let me start out with a little about my car.  I had been looking for a hatchback 96-00 Civic for awhile towards the beginning of 2009, and craigslist wasn't cutting it as far as good looking cars were concerned.  Well I drove by the credit union by work one thursday afternoon and saw a black hatch with a for-sale sign on it.  Sixteen hours later it was mine, and I was totally pumped.  It had less than 100k on the odometer, and I figured that I'd do an oil change, maybe change the timing belt, and it'd be good to go for ever and ever.

This was not really the case.  Over the last year and a half, I drove it a bit, had to change the muffler (rust hole), the exhaust manifold (cracked), adjust the valves, much of the ignition system, and put some new tires on it (it had Douglas brand, ie Walmart, that were starting to bubble, so I had to trash them for some Michelins).

I've been dreaming of a K-swap for awhile, and now that I have the money [mostly] saved up, it's go time.

Stay tuned as I go through the suspension, brakes, and engine room and make it sweet.
